Founded by the Galapagos Conservation Trust, today is the day to celebrate all that is brilliant about blue footed boobies. So, get out your best blue shoes (or socks) and be a booby for the day.
(These are one of my many pairs of blue shoes – yes blue is my favourite colour, and yes, marine biologists do sometimes wear heels).
Here are some blue footed booby facts. My favourite thing is that for these guys, the bluer the better – females seem to prefer males with the bluest feet. Scientists think it could be an indicator of good nutrition and hence excellent foraging and feeding skills. So blue feet equals great dad.
