Ambergris Caye Snorkeling Tips in Belize – Types of Snorkels and Fins to Use

Overview

To take advantage of snorkeling, Ambergris Caye is ideally positioned. It’s a fast boat ride from the island to a great snorkeling spot with the reef just offshore, about a half-mile and a mile in most areas. With the sea between five and fifteen feet, most snorkeling areas are shallow, providing up-close views of the marine world. The geology that defines the Ambergris Caye reef and shoreline is the product of a shallow region of sea between the shore and the reef. This makes for quiet sea conditions, suitable for snorkeling, with little to no current. Snorkeling at Ambergris Caye is excellent, and it is the most popular snorkeling area in Belize.

We took several snorkeling trips to Ambergris Caye and shared our impressions and what snorkeling spots we enjoyed the most. It is the largest offshore island along the coast in a chain of over 200. It’s still inside the huge barrier reef of Belize, but just barely. In every place, the reef is just about a mile from the Caye. And that is one of the reasons why Ambergris is the center of Belize for snorkeling (and diving).

Whenever it comes to these games, scuba fins are the ideal answer to this issue. Every people new to these games refer to scuba fins and flippers, but flippers were a fish, and whenever scuba fins are called flippers, every members of the swim community are not pleased. Whatever you name them, while spending time in the sea, scuba fins are an integral part of your equipment, so here is a guide to help you find the best scuba fins to suit your ideal sport and leg style.

  1. Entire leg fin

With this kind of fin, you don’t need to where any kind of socks, although a slim kind of sock may be worn to help avoid the kind of spots you get from friction your legs in the water body. The only reason people have been using and they will continue to use these for decades is mainly because they are appropriate, fitting and feathery. The weight of the baggage is outstanding, but we also think it saves energy in the sea.

Kicking is like walking with heavy shoes versus tennis shoes with heavy scuba fins on. The weight on the long snorkel adds up. Entire leg scuba fins are more hydrodynamic and are therefore more effective, making them easier to move through the sea.

entire leg scuba fins, that means that after you swam into deeper end of the water body (sea, ocean or river), you should take water you are wearing on your leg on whether it is your boots or your flip flops. After that you should tie a snorkeling belt to your boots. It is not as easy as I said it but once you have done it once or two times it will become easy for you to do I promise. One major disadvantage I can’t think of right now is that you can easily get a cold leg in the cold-water body (sea, ocean or river). This isn’t talked about as much as possible.

  1. Exposed Heel Scuba fins

The special thing about Exposed heel snorkeling scuba fins is that a much wider leg pocket may also be bought. The scuba fins are supposed to be worn with shoes that is made from the material called neoprene. Neoprene also known as polychloroprene and it is one of the first synthetic rubber ever made it is generally stronger than natural rubber and more water and oil resistant. Many snorkelers prefer this kind of fin and shoe system. Whenever you can float, you can walk out in your shoes and then just put your scuba fins on over them. You don’t need to take off your shoes and tie them to a belt.

On the thin rungs, they help with the traction and comfort of your bare feet. Whenever snorkeling in colder sea, neoprene shoes can also keep your feet wet. In addition, the shoes will provide more padding and protection from swellings and friction for those individuals with bunions or other leg health issues.

  1. Exposed Heel Snorkeling Scuba fins

On the back, exposed heel scuba fins have a strap that goes over your heel that holds your leg in place, and the scuba fins do not protect your leg’s entire sole. Personally, we have never considered exposed heel scuba fins to be as convenient as models of entire feet. Many people do, however. These shoeless exposed heel scuba fins are even shorter in the luggage, in addition to all the advantages of an entire leg fin, since the heel strap can be tucked in. The sad thing about the shoeless models is that they have the same downside as the full leg fin and the leg is not protected full just a part is protected, that way your heel is exposed to hard rocks and animals in the sea.

Conclusion

For many here, snorkeling is a common pastime, since the sea is clean and dazzling clear. Access to the shore is simple and the winds are generally moderate. Many folks come to Belize on their own to snorkel. Seasoned snorkelers have told us that they enjoy snorkeling in Belize during the night.

Fit is very important with scuba fins. Whenever you use them, just like a badly fitting mask can cause friction or leakage, a badly fitted scuba fin can cause friction, swellings or discomfort. The fit comes down to the pocket of the leg. You need to make sure that the leg pocket is snug and secure around your leg, irrespective of whether you are using exposed-heel scuba fins with shoes or entire leg scuba fins, but not so close that it is painful or awkward and not so wide or loose that your leg will slip out whenever you kick the fin wiggle/shuffles side by side. The correctly fitted scuba fin should have the feeling of a natural leg and leg extension. Typically, scuba fins will still fit slightly bigger in the water, so make sure you have a very comfortable fit whenever you try it in the store.
